File Server
Hardware
- mac mini
- external Promise RAID arrays, configured as extendable disk, so can just add more storage as needed.
- probably located in lab (close to VAX machines)
File server service
- NFS for calculation macs, hopefully for VMS
- Windows file server for Windows machines, and if necessary for VMS
- ssh server for remote access
- need to test performance of network disk access for calculation machines - will depend on software (i.e. amount of IO compared with other tasks)
Accounts
- User authentication provided to other computers, but only calculation macs
Subversion
- subversion repository.
- trac for subversion respository (login required).
XGrid
- If we find it is useful and easy to set up and maintain.
Backup
- backup array probably in Steve's office
- dedicated mac mini for backup? or use an existing computer?
Other Comments
- not to be used as a workstation (maximum stability and reliability for file server)
